Days of Our Lives Recap | Marlena & Steve Return & Learn Bo is Dying - Monday, April 28, 2025 [SPOILERS]

On Days of Our Lives, Steve and Marlena return to Salem expecting hugs and high-fives, but what they get is a heart-wrenching update about Bo’s failing health, Johnny wrestling with dad drama and doubts, and prom plans that crash harder than Holly’s love life.

Marlena & Steve Return & Salem is a Hot Mess

Salem really knows how to roll out the welcome mat — and by welcome mat, we mean an emotional sledgehammer. Steve and Marlena finally waltz back into town on Days of Our Lives, only to be met with the worst kind of news. Forget the champagne and warm fuzzies. Instead, it’s “Bo’s dying” and “Welcome home, here’s your trauma.”

That’s right, folks. The man who’s cheated death more times than a soap villain at a volcano summit is now in serious trouble, thanks to a ventilator infection that’s turned into sepsis. You’d think the hospital where half the town either works or flatlines could manage something a little more promising. But alas, the outlook is grim — unless Kayla’s miracle-drug Hail Mary can land before the final credits roll on Bo’s life.

Steve & Marlena Get Slammed With Bo’s Condition

After chatting about the success of the auction (and let’s be real, Roman’s clearly riding high on those community hero vibes), Kayla's on the verge of smiling for more than five minutes when Hope calls to drop the “Bo’s probably not going to make it” bomb. Meanwhile, Steve and Marlena strut into town feeling optimistic about the ISA’s mission to bring John back. But instead of celebratory beers at the pub, they walk into Kayla’s barely-holding-it-together meltdown.

Apparently, Bo’s body decided now was the perfect time to go full medical mystery, and the doctors are out of ideas. Sepsis has entered the chat, and antibiotics are about as useful as a soggy tissue. Thankfully, Kayla knows a guy (because of course she does) who’s working on some next-gen anti-sepsis drug. One minor detail: it’s never been tested on humans. What could possibly go wrong?

Shawn Goes Full Spiral Over His Dad

Elsewhere in Salem, Shawn is doing what he does best these days — guilt-tripping himself into an emotional pit. He’s convinced that Bo’s decline is 100% his fault for shooting him (hey, in his defense, Bo wasn’t exactly acting like a Hallmark dad at the time). On the phone with his mom, he tries to insist he should fly out to see Bo, but Hope isn’t having it. So instead, he vents to Jada, whose sympathy game is top tier.

Shawn | DOOL

She opens up about her own dad, Marcus, and how being by his side when he passed didn’t erase any pain or guilt. Translation: showing up at a deathbed doesn’t come with an emotional refund. Jada gives Shawn some solid perspective, reminding him that he’s exactly where he’s supposed to be — with the people who love him, not drowning in regret. Also, can we talk about how these two actually have a little spark? Just saying.

Johnny’s Daddy Issues & Adoption Anxiety

Let’s head over to Abe and Paulina’s place, where Johnny walks into a living room exploding with baby gear. Chanel’s positively glowing as she gushes about cribs and nurseries and how they’re this close to sealing the deal with the adoption. Only, there’s a little snag: Belle hasn’t dropped off the paperwork, and Johnny straight-up lies about it. Classy.

Chanel & Johnny | DOOL

Chanel, being the sweet cinnamon roll she is, brushes it off and pivots to house-hunting dreams. Johnny does his best to fake enthusiasm, but the man’s got a storm brewing inside. The second Chanel dashes off to support Felicity’s gymnastics win (go girl!), Johnny’s face drops and he starts sifting through baby clothes like a man haunted by every life decision.

Later, Johnny gets a much-needed sit-down with Marlena, who has zero patience for his passive-aggressive inner turmoil. When he tells her he kind of (read: definitely) wished EJ had died, Marlena doesn’t flinch. She simply reminds him that wishing someone dead — especially with a police investigation still hanging over the family like a soap opera chandelier — is not a cute look. More importantly, she presses him on the real problem: Johnny isn’t ready to be a dad, and no amount of Chanel’s sparkle or adoption paperwork is going to change that.

Chanel, Sophia & Prom Problems

At the high school, Tate’s feeling brave enough to ask Sophia to prom — which just so happens to fall on her 18th birthday. Cue the immediate shutdown. Sophia’s pregnant, hormonal, and not in the mood for sparkly dresses and slow dances. At first, she thinks Tate’s using her to make Holly jealous, but he insists he just wants to celebrate being seniors.

Chanel, ever the emotional rock, shows up and gives Sophia a bouquet, nearly breaking down as she thanks them for sticking by her and Johnny. This moment, folks, is pure DOOL gold — the kind that reminds you why you’re still tuning in after all these years.

Eventually, Sophia softens and agrees to go to prom with Tate. It’s not the fairy tale she imagined, but it’s something. And when Tate offers her a single rose like he’s auditioning for The Bachelor: Salem Edition, you can’t help but root for the kid.

The Square: Where Guilt & Ice Cream Collide

Shawn and Jada run into Steve and Kayla, and what do you know — more guilt! Shawn’s convinced he’s the villain in his father’s story, but Steve and Kayla immediately shut that narrative down. This is a family crisis, and no one’s shouldering it alone.

Meanwhile, Steve and Jada share a quiet moment over ice cream, reminiscing about Marcus, who apparently made weekly visits to the ice cream shop a sacred tradition. It’s a sweet little pause in an otherwise emotionally loaded episode, and it’s nice to see the show balancing heartbreak with a scoop of sentiment.

Johnny Drops the Bomb, Chanel’s Jaw Drops Harder

The episode wraps up with Johnny finally facing the music — or at least tuning his guitar. When Chanel gets home, she’s all smiles and ready to show off pics from Felicity’s big win. But Johnny’s not here to celebrate. He hits her with the dreaded “we need to talk,” and the look on Chanel’s face could melt steel.

That’s right — he’s about to throw a wrench into the adoption plans, and Chanel is seconds away from realizing her dream of motherhood might be slipping through her fingers. Not exactly the homecoming Marlena and Steve imagined, huh?
